Industry Short Courses
In order to disseminate the considerable
knowledge developed by CAST over the years, innovative training
programs and information sessions are developed and presented to
Australian industry. Close liaison with
CAST's industrial partners ensure relevant courses and information
are delivered, and materials are in a suitable format which enables
their reuse in the future.

Casthouse
Training
A
casthouse training course has been developed to provide a technical
appreciation of the safety, quality, productivity and environmental
aspects of the light metals industry, and an understanding of the
global industry.
Foundry Safety
Course
A Foundry
Safety Course, initially developed for Ferra Engineering to expand
their business into die casting, covers the handling and processing
of molten metal. The course content has been added to, and is available
in a flexible format for presentation to any company dealing with
molten metal - from large aluminium smelter casthouses to SME cast
shops.
Light Metals Technology
Course
With the assistance
of the Swinburne TAFE and Comalco, a Light Metals Technology Course
has been developed for TAFE delivery and as a resource for High
School teachers. The course promotes the industry and to date has
been incorporated into high school chemistry classes, TAFE automotive
design courses and work experience programs.
Vacation Student
Placements
With the assistance
of CAST industry partners a number of vacation student placements
are offered to engineering students entering their final year of
study. A number of these programs have led to final year projects
in conjunction with CAST's education providers.
