History
CAST was selected as a Cooperative Research Centre in the third (1992) round of the Federal Government's CRC program, under the name CRC for Alloy and Solidification Technology. Founding core partners were The University of Queensland, CSIRO Division of Manufacturing Technology, Comalco Aluminium Limited, Australian Magnesium Research and Development Project and Australian Automotive Technology Centre.

A much expanded Centre received renewed support in the sixth round of funding held in 1998, at which time it was renamed the CRC for Cast Metals Manufacturing. The Centre continues to be known as CAST, providing continuity and building on our excellent reputation.
